Our mission is to be a full service law firm. Because of the experience and background of our members, a large part of our practice is litigation.

The firm name has changed over the years, but it has continued with "Johnston" in its name since 1968. At one time the firm was known simply as the Joe Johnston Law Firm.

Because of a long-standing belief that the cost of hiring a lawyer was rising faster than the ability of the average person to afford quality legal services, this firm has always been on the cutting edge of technology. It is our belief that with a proper use of technological tools available we can accomplish that goal. Our founder Joseph Johnston was instrumental in the development of some of the earliest uses of computers in law firms. In the 1970's, Joe gave over 200 seminars to lawyers on the behalf of IBM on the use of the computer in the law firm.

At the present time our offices are networked both internally and between Iowa City and Cedar Rapids. With the technology available today, we can provide the lawyer best suited for a case in the office nearest the client.

The determination of the need for legal services and the choice of a lawyer are extremely important decisions and should not be based solely upon advertisements, certification, specialization or self-proclaimed expertise. A description or indication of limitation of practice does not mean that any agency or board has certified such lawyers as specialist or expert in an indicated field of law practice, nor does it mean that such lawyer is necessarily any more expert or competent than any other lawyer. All potential clients are urged to make their own independent investigation and evaluation of any lawyer being considered. These disclosures are required by the Supreme Court of Iowa.
